Late Night Confessions

I miss my oldest daughter. Where is she, you wonder. Well what started out as a way of keeping stability in her life while her parents lives were changing, has now turned into a quest for a good education and a good social life. Yep social life. Now this is her mothers opinion only. Others may see it differently. But if you knew me, you'd know my social life until I got to high school wasn't as brilliant as I was. So we made the decision to have her stay with her grandparents to keep consistency in her life.

As she started out in her educational career she didn't quite mesh well with others. She had a big heart and always was concerned about right and wrong. Maybe overly a do-gooder. And she didn't quite manage her emotions very well. Its an honest trait. So once she started going to a school where she identified culturally and went consistently, she continued to make more friends (and excel in her academics naturally) and it was clear that the right choice for her was to keep her with her grandparents and continue her education there. Even if it meant her school was 40 miles away from where I lived. And so it goes, she stays with her grandparents on the week days. They live down the street from both the elementary and junior high schools. [And on a cooler note, they were the same schools I went to growing up.]

But it has meant being a long distance parent and seeing her on the weekends. I admit, I have dropped the ball a few times, maybe because its that out of sight/out of mind mentality. I mean who reallly does long distance mothering?? I had a lot to learn.

And now that I feel like i'm doing much better, I find that I miss her tremendously around the house. She is about to become a teenager. A young woman. Its been a challenege but she is a brilliant and endearing child. And she makes it so easy to love her. And I want her to be outstandingly successful! So for us this works. She's an A+ student and an A+ friend. And more importantly an A+ daughter. Who I love and miss.
