Late Night Confessions

Lent has begun. 40 days of sacrifice. The number 40 is a huge significance in the bible. Sometimes 40 days and nights, sometimes 40 years.

It rained 40 days and 40 nights when Noah was out in the ark. Genesis 7:12 The people of Israel brought up out of Egypt and led in the wilderness 40 years. Amos 2:10 Moses stayed on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights before receiving the ten commandments. Deuteronomy 9:11 God cursed the Israelites grumbling with 40 years of suffering for their unfaithfulness. Numbers 14:33 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years. 2 Chronicles 9:30

And it goes on and on. With the ultimate 40 days; "Jesus was led by the spirit to the wilderness where for 40 days he was tempted by Satan." Luke 4:2

In that 40 days Jesus fasted. And that is my goal this year. And if you notice it says he fasted 40 days and no mention of nights. So I will follow the same idea (while the weight loss will be a bonus, don't think days AND nights would cut it). It would be more like 40 days and nights of stay-out-of-mommys-way-or-somebody-gets-hurt. Revelations...

And while we do not practice Catholicism, we do honor the practice of sacrificing 40 days for the Lord and Savior.

Now I always wondered why the word "fast" is used because to me fast=NOW. Can you tell its already going to be a long 40 days....
